Introduction to Fuhuade Power Plant
|
 | | Fuhuade Power Plant is a Sino-Foreign Joint Venture established in China in 1994 with a planned operating period of 30 years from November 1994. The power plant is located in Dapeng township in the Longgang district of Shenzhen China. During the period from 2002 to 2005 Fuhuade Power Plant reformed its stock ownership structure and repeated large-scale development. Fuhuade Power Plant, with an electricity generating capacity of 665 Megawatts, is now an indirect wholly owned subsidiary of Enerchina Holdings Ltd.(Stock Code:622.HK) |
Initially Fuhuade Power Plant had just one generator set with a total capacity of 70.8 Megawatts transmitted to the power grid. According to the power purchase agreement between Shenzhen Power Supply Bureau and Fuhuade Power Plant on 15th March 1996 and the supplementary agreement of 16th January 1998, an initial electric capacity of 70.8 Megawatts must be transmitted to the Shenzhen power grid. The agreements expire in 2024. Fuhuade Power Plant is a peak load oil fired power plant and supplements the basic full day coal fired power station load for Shenzhen and neighboring districts.
At the beginning of the 21st century, the demand for electricity in Guangdong Province leapt upwards due to the development of businesses in the area. Therefore, Fuhuade developed an expansion plan for a combined cycle power plant, which includes a gas turbine generating set, at the existing site. The second combined cycle generator set started generating in May 2003, which increased generating capacity from 70.8 Megawatts to 305 Megawatts. In August 2004 the third combined cycle generator set increased another 180 Megawatts to bring overall generating capacity to 485 Megawatts. By the end of June 2005, the fourth combined cycle generator set started generating, adding yet another 180 Megawatts to make a total generating capacity of 665 Megawatts.
The power plant is currently fired by fuel oil, but can also use natural gas. In response to Chinese environmental protection policy, Fuhuade Power Plant plans to refit three generator sets to use natural gas, which gives the power plant the option to use cheaper and cleaner fuel.
Fuhuade Power Plant is currently waiting for government departments to approve its expansion plans and hopes to reach a generating capacity of 1,400 megawatts using natural gas as its main fuel. Its ultimate aim is to improve power plant profitability and competitiveness.
